Statistical Study of Cancer of the Larynx

Abstract
|
|
|
Recently the statistics regarding cancer of the larynx were reported by many authors. But the clinical statistics on the title were poorly reported up-to-date in Korea.
The author had observed and figured out their clinical statistics of 67 cases of cancer of the larynx. They were all cases which verified histopathologically during five year period (Oct. 1960-Sept.1965) at Dept. of Otolaryngology, S.N.U.H.
The following results were obtained.
1. In this study, there were 57 males (85%) and 10 females (15%), about 6 times more frequent in man than woman.
2. Age distribution showed a predilection for fifth and sixth decades (over. 70%). The average cancer age was 56.4 in year.
3. The histopathological classification of the laryngeal cancer was as follows;
4. Most of the cases (62.6%) had visited the Dept. of Otolaryngology, S.N.U.H. within 6 months after onset.
5. The distribution according to the location of tumors was as follows;
6. The distribution of cancer of the larynx according to relationship between the stages and locations was as shown (table 15).
7. The metastases to the deep lateral cervical nodes were arisen chiefly from the laryngopharyngeal and supraglottic lesions (70%).
8. The metastases to the deep anterior. cervical nodes were arisen chiefly from the glottic grid subglottic lesions. (80%)
9. The metastases to the submaxillary nodes were arisen chiefly from the laryngopharyngeal and supraglottic lesions (75%)
